A Court of Splintered Harmony: Release Date, Blurb, Cover and Everything We Know

A Court of Splintered Harmony releases October 27, 2026, tagline: what was broken will be remade. A Court of Forgotten Melody follows January 12, 2027, tagline: what was lost will be reclaimed. Both were announced together on August 18, with covers that leaked a few hours before the official post, because no Maas announcement is complete without a leak.

The villain is confirmed: Koschei the Deathless, the death-lord bound to his mountain lake since the original trilogy, is stirring and gathering allies who want the human lands back. The official description puts the Night Court at the center, still rebuilding after the Hybern war, and points hard at internal fractures: recent betrayals, revealed truths, and rifts inside the Inner Circle that the title is not subtle about.

Structure-wise, Maas has described the arc as one story in movements: Splintered Harmony is movement one, Forgotten Melody carries movements two and three, and an untitled third book completes the cycle. The music theme runs through everything, titles included. Audiobook readers are covered day one, with Elizabeth Evans narrating, and a GraphicAudio edition of Splintered Harmony lands December 23, 2026.

What is deliberately NOT confirmed: whose eyes we see it through. The blurbs avoid naming a lead, and after the Silver Flames POV shift, that silence is clearly strategic.

The arc's official name is the Valkyrie Cycle, which points straight at the order of female warriors Nesta, Gwyn and Emerie revived in A Court of Silver Flames. The natural read is that Gwyn and Emerie step forward, with the romance threads readers have been braiding since 2021 finally on the table. The counter-theory making the rounds is darker and better: that the cycle refers to older Valkyries, hidden away under Koschei's lake, which would tie the whole arc back to Vassa's curse and the death-lord's bargains.

The blurbs support either reading. What they clearly promise is the Inner Circle scattering across the map, alliances failing, and at least one betrayal close to home. The Elain and Lucien question, the single most contested plotline in the fandom, appears to be deferred rather than answered, and half the comment sections are grieving about it. The other half are examining the cover art with forensic intensity: readers have clocked what looks like scrying bones and a certain nightmare entity from the House of Wind's basement on one cover, and a suspiciously familiar spider on the other, which has the crossover theorists whispering about Stygian silk. We are not saying they are right. We are saying nobody at Bloomsbury chose those images by accident.

And the covers themselves? Genuinely divisive. The new gradient look breaks from every earlier edition, the fandom is split between elegant and 2010s-Instagram, and owners of matching hardcover sets have simply gone into mourning. A third redesign before the series even ends is a choice, and everyone knows exactly what kind of choice it is.

Nine-ish weeks is enough for the full series if you read at a normal human pace, and enough for the essentials if you do not. The strict-order route lives in the ACOTAR reading order.
