Kenna blames herself, and the enemy does terrible things to her. She refuses to give up, because her house is depending on her and because she has finally found someone who loves her as fiercely as she loves him. The question the book sets up is how far she will go to win, and whether she can stay human while doing it.
Based on the first two books, expect a dark, high-stakes ending. The setup promises a war story with Kenna captured and fighting back from the worst position she has been in.
The series has built a romance that finally seems settled, which in a finale usually means it will be tested hard.
