Book two of Sarah Hawley's Shards of Magic. Once a servant, now a Fae princess of her own house, Kenna Heron holds the deciding vote in a three-way fight for Mistei's throne, and someone wants her dead before she can use it.

Everything You Need to Know About Princess of Blood

Princess of Blood picks up with Kenna reeling. The man she loved has betrayed her, war is coming, and she has learned she is not only Fae but a princess of Blood House.

The king is dead and three candidates want the crown: a princess who claims it by birthright, and two rebel princes who each need Blood House on their side to break the deadlock. That puts Kenna, who arrived in Mistei as a servant, at the centre of the most dangerous politics in the kingdom. Her only real allies are her two closest friends, and neither of them has any power.

The book trades the trial structure of Servant of Earth for court intrigue. Alliances shift, old loyalties come apart, and the romance goes in a direction readers did not expect after book one.

The flip from servant to princess. Kenna does not suddenly become comfortable with power, and the book is good on how strange and risky it feels.

The politics. A three-way succession fight gives every conversation an edge.

The friendships. Kenna's two powerless friends are the moral centre of the book.

And the romance, which resets after the betrayal and builds again more carefully.

Betrayal, violence, assassination attempts, war, death, torture and on-page sexual content.

Anyone who finished Servant of Earth and wanted more of Mistei's politics. If you like royalty and succession plots, this is where the series leans into them.

Read book one first. This one makes little sense without it.

Book 2 of 3 in The Shards of Magic. Read after Servant of Earth. The finale, Warrior of the Shards, is out December 8, 2026.
