With Alexa cursed no longer and Jericho figuring out a fractured world, new characters rise: the mortal kings who previously served the gods. They're now vying for power as divine authority crumbles. Alexa, now human and breakable for the first time, must choose whether to fight or hide. Jericho, still bound by curse, is hunted by both sides. The gods are fragmenting into factions, turning on each other.

The shift from 'gods vs mortals' to 'mortals vs each other' is refreshing. New POV characters bring fresh perspectives. Political intrigue without losing the fantasy action. The curse mechanics evolve, characters are finding ways to break or weaponize them. Alexa's vulnerability as a mortal is genuinely affecting.

Battle violence, political assassinations, curse-breaking body horror, betrayal, separation of main couple, structural violence.

One of the gods is captured by a mortal faction and tortured for information. Jericho is forced to work against Alexa to save his own life. A secondary character becomes a political player unexpectedly. The book ends with Alexa learning her severed curse is causing unintended consequences, it's spreading to other cursed mortals.

You're four books in; keep going. For readers who loved complex faction dynamics in other epics. Comp to Sanderson's shifting power structures. NOT for readers who need the main couple always together or strong.

Book 4 of 5. Final book coming. The series is building toward a reckoning, not resolution.
