The floating Isles worship the lunar goddess who lives inside the narrator, a crest-born symbol of the old bloodlines. The three heirs of the Quiet Fang need to connect with Luna to claim dominion over Dreadmark and take the Blood Seat, and she prays daily that her other half keeps rejecting them. That other half prefers talking to living paintings between vicious nightmares. The succession race stops mattering when wyverns twisted by Veyrspawn shadow start attacking from above. Even with the Cold Claw's help bringing one down, the rendborne are losing ground against an enemy that drops death from the heavens.
