Everything You Need to Know About A Light in the Flame
Sera's plan is shattered when her secrets spill into the open, destroying any fragile trust with Nyktos, the Primal of Death. She's surrounded by people who don't believe her, but she has no choice, she's dying. The only way to survive is for Nyktos to Ascend her through love. The problem: he had that part of his soul removed years ago, making love impossible. But Nyktos has a plan to save her anyway. As they work together, Sera discovers her own Primal power. Life itself, awakening inside her. The catch: there's a scorching, undeniable chemistry between them that gets more dangerous by the day. And Sera can't afford to fall for him, not when she's finally close to breaking free from the destiny she never asked for.
Armentrout ramps up the stakes while deepening Sera and Nyktos's dynamic. The sexual tension is genuinely on fire, every scene between them crackles with want and conflict. The worldbuilding expands here; you get real insight into what Primals are and how power works in Iliseeum. Sera's Primal powers feel earned and tense. The romance doesn't overshadow the plot, there's real danger from Kolis, the false King, and genuine obstacles that can't be kissed away.
Explicit sexual content. Descriptions of past torture and abuse. Violence and blood. Psychological manipulation by the villain. References to non-consent in past trauma.
Nyktos and Sera do have intense sexual scenes. Kolis becomes increasingly unstable and brutal as he realizes Sera's power. Sera's Primal power of Life is far stronger than anyone expected, and Nyktos begins to fear what she might become. The ending reveals major information about Kolis's plans and leaves multiple cliffhangers about Sera's identity and Nyktos's true nature.
Essential if you read A Shadow in the Flame. This assumes you know Sera and Nyktos's history. Try this if you love paranormal romance with high stakes and a heroine who's actively problem-solving her own survival. Heads up: this is book 2 in a series, so it ends on a cliffhanger.
Book 2 in the Flesh and Fire trilogy. Absolutely requires reading A Shadow in the Flame first, this picks up directly after that ending. Book 3, A Fire in the Flesh, is already out.
