Everything You Need to Know About Glint
Auren is ripped from Midas's gilded castle by the Fourth Kingdom's army and discovers her captor is Commander Rip, a Fae warrior with a brutal reputation. As she's marched across kingdoms, she learns the world isn't divided into safe and dangerous the way Midas taught her. The Fourth Kingdom isn't the monster kingdom she was raised to fear. Rip isn't a villain. And she, the golden girl, the saddle, the plaything, is stronger than anyone realized. Glint is about breaking the cage from the inside, one misconception at a time.
The pacing is excellent, there's real forward momentum without feeling rushed. Kennedy builds attraction slowly and without melodrama. Auren's voice is clear and distinctive, and watching her challenge her own assumptions (especially about Rip and his kingdom) is satisfying. The world-building expands smartly; the Seven Kingdoms start feeling real. Rip is a love interest with actual characterization beyond 'dark and brooding.'
Trauma and captivity references. Mild violence. Sexual content (fade to black). Abuse trauma (Auren's history with Midas).
Auren and Rip kiss and there's sexual content, but Kennedy doesn't dwell on it, the emotional shift is the point. Auren discovers Rip is Fae and part of a much larger world than she knew. The book ends with Auren choosing to go with Rip to the Fourth Kingdom, a major character shift. Midas is still alive and scheming by the end.
Start with Gild if you haven't. If you love enemies-to-lovers and slow burn romance, this is your book. For readers wanting high fantasy spectacle, Kennedy's style is quieter and more character-focused. Works for people who eat up morally complex love interests.
Book 2 in Plated Prisoner. Requires Gild first. This is where the series expands beyond Auren's cage and into the larger political world. Directly leads to Gleam.
