Fire brings new heat to the paranormal romance series as elemental magic deepens and the stakes escalate. The sequel expands the universe while keeping the character-driven paranormal romance front and center. Expect danger, magic, and relationships tested by supernatural forces.

Everything You Need to Know About Fire Falling

Vhalla Yarl won her trial but lost her freedom. Property of the Solaris Empire now, she marches with the army toward the war in the North, the Empire counting on its first Windwalker in a hundred and forty years to deliver victory. The march gives the book its shape: training her wind magic, learning what the Bond and Joining between her and Prince Aldrik actually mean, and stealing moments with a crown prince she is not allowed to love. Around them soldiers gamble, scheme, and die, and the closer the army gets to the front, the clearer it becomes that some people want Vhalla dead before she ever reaches it.

War violence, character death, grief and survivor's guilt, trauma and nightmares carried over from book 1, alcohol use.

The death that defines the book is Larel, Vhalla's Firebearer friend and anchor, killed in an attack during the march. Her loss wrecks Vhalla and hardens her. The romance with Aldrik deepens in secret, against the Emperor's plans for his heir. The ending is a genuine cliffhanger: a violent assault throws everything into chaos and the book cuts off mid-crisis, straight into Earth's End.

For readers who want slow-burn forbidden royal romance with elemental magic and real casualties, in the vein of early Throne of Glass or The Winner's Curse. YA-leaning, no explicit content. If military march pacing or love-interest angst wears on you, this middle book will test your patience.

Fire Falling is book 2 of 5 in the Air Awakens series, directly after Air Awakens. The march to war bridges the palace intrigue of book 1 and the front-line war of Earth's End. Do not read out of order.
